Job Search Tips And Pointers
June 28, 2011 by Dorothy Parkinson · Leave a Comment
Just click on your TV set, turn the channel to your local news, then listen and watch all the latest negative local jobs reports. Also depending on what area of the country you live in, it can be worse. Increasing numbers of people filling the unemployment lines, and staying there longer than before. Then again, if you happen to be among the ranks of the unemployed you don’t have to see these news stories because you know the news firsthand.
The problem that most long term unemployed workers have though, is that they remain “too inflexible” until it’s too late. It’s easy to do because for many the recession came on “gradually”, beginning with a work slowdown, and ending up with a total work stoppage. Those are the people that all too often end up on the bottom of the job hunting “food chain”.
Now for job seekers who are willing to bend and flex and do some “out of the box thinking” though, the fact is that there are loads of jobs still out there to check out. Not just any jobs either, but “good to great” paying jobs that in many instances pay more than the work that you were doing when the economy was booming. Sound a bit hard to believe? Well then maybe you might want to check out chemical plant, and oil field work in Texas and Louisiana.
Did you know that even as the worst unemployment reports were coming out recently, labor contractors and even oil and chemical companies themselves were having trouble keeping unskilled technician jobs filled? People that can pass random drug tests and show up on time. Don’t kid yourself either because these are high paying jobs that start out between $20, and $25 per hour.
Then another example that while it’s for sure not for everyone, is work that can pay you $30,000 per month. Jobs right now that if you are willing to climb on board and put in 24 hour work shifts can net you well over $100,000 in one short season. I’m referring to commercial crab fishing off the coast of Alaska and while it is a very cold and dangerous job, it doe’s pay “incredibly well” and boat captains are always “looking” for help.
So granted, while these are a few of the more “extreme examples” they work to prove a damn good point. That is that if you know where to look, and are willing to relocate there are plenty of jobs right now that you can drop right into if you possess the “will to do so”. They also prove one other point, and that is that if you can pass a drug pee test, show up every day right on time, and is willing to accept a new occupation there is work for you out there.

No More Universal Cover Letters!
May 29, 2011 by Lukas Gluczsz · Leave a Comment
Making a job search cover letter needn’t be a dreary process. Effective cover letters are short, skimmable and simply read ( a good axiom wherever your cover letter is going ) three to four paragraphs tops. If you are answering an advert, address the pre-requisites in the ad and talk to how your experience is related to each. If you are sending the letter cold, confirm your letter reflects some research on the company, how your background relates, and why you have an interest in that company. But as an alternative what usually occurs is this. Bob is looking out for a job. He looks through the paper, finds some adverts that sound engaging, and circles them all with red pen. Then he sweats out the cover letter, personalizes each address, attaches his resume, mails them out, and congratulates himself on a task well done. Then nothing happens. He wonders why. He shrugs his shoulders and starts all over again.
From another perspective, Bob could take command of his career and set out to find his perfect job. That begins to give him a clue about what incentivizes him, who he is under what conditions he functions productively, and what he’s trying to find in his next job. Then he begins to go looking for firms that fit this profile – whether they have adverts in the paper or not. Not all firms publicize their openings. Regularly openings are still in the reflective stages,eg an enlargement or secret replacement. In the initial paragraph, Bob claims why he’s writing to that particular company. Instead of ‘I am writing because I saw your ad, ‘ he writes, ‘I am responding to your ad because…..’. For the letters he’s sending cold : ‘I am sending you a copy of my resume because in researching firms that I feel I may be useful to…. ‘ ( in opposition to ‘…companies I suspect I would like to work for… ‘ ) Stress goes on the benefit to the company. Not the benefit to you.
In the second paragraph, Bob personalizes it. This is the paragraph ( or 2 ) that varies with each company or ad. Two or three sentences will do it if there’s one paragraph, or add another paragraph of roughly the same length. This part comes from inside.
Why are you writing this company? What’s it became to do with what you do and who you are? It doesn’t have to be a long introspective story – but if there’s something explicit in the ad or about the company that’s attractive to you, speak to it. ( And if there is not, why are you writing them? ) the 3rd paragraph winds everything up. And don’t forget to be pro-active. Give the person to whom you are writing about 10 days to get the letter and get in touch with you ( which likely won’t occur because things infrequently don’t move that fast ), and then chase up. They’re spotted at a hundred steps, particularly by recruiters and HR folk. Is all this a large quantity of difficulty? Yes, it is.
An individualized cover letter gets you recalled. Pronouncing you will chase up and then doing so on the date indicated, gets you recollected. That gives you far better probabilities than ending up at the base of some pile on a desk. Because if you are called in to interview, then you are part of YOUR deciding process. If you go universal, skip over the salutation, and hang about, you mix into the woodwork.
You won’t essentially have a chance to reject the company if they have recently defied you.

Careful Preparation When Relocating A Business
February 25, 2011 by Marci J. Murray · Leave a Comment
It is natural for people who work in an office to change offices because of various business related reasons. They might decide to move from one office to another since the business is not strategically located , there is no enough room to house all the workers, or better still their offices are not easily accessible hence it might be doing injustice to their business.
It might also be a joint meeting that requires the parties to have a place where both of them are comfortable with hence they have to come up with the right place for them to be able to meet.
All these factors might form up the reasons as to why you should choose a specific venue over the other, but since you cannot be able to obtain everything under one roof, you may be forced to compromise some of the things over the other.
The locality of the premises that you are choosing to hold your meeting is of the essence, a good accessible premise will make it easy for those people whom you expect to attend the meeting to be able to do that. The place that you are going to hold the meeting should be near the motorway, airport and the hotel so that they can easily move from one place to another and also be able to find a place to sleep just in case the meeting might extend to the next day.
You also need to consider the amount of parking space in the entire location if you want the people who are around you to be entirely comfortable with parking their cars since it will be more secure than for them parking on the nearby streets.
Secondly you need to consider what the meeting you are going to have involves, this will determine if the venue you have chosen is the right place providing the right facilities or not, for example if you are going to have a lecture on specific issues, you have to ensure the place has a good public address system which will come in handy when it comes to the presentations.
For a large gathering, it’s important to ensure that the numbers of seats are enough to accommodate the gathering and the sound should be of good quality so that all the people can be able to hear what is being talked about. The place should also have other amenities such as the toilets in good number so that there is no jam for those facilities.
Remember the image of the company is of the essence especially if you want to ensure that the company becomes more reputable. Different clients are aware of the costs of hiring different venues, so if you select the best venue for the meeting, you will find different parties gaining faith in you and going a step further in having faith in you and offering you the opportunity to be able to do some work for them.
