Visit The Beautiful St Barts Villas This Year

July 2, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

This island’s arid tropical climate and rugged terrain historically made it unsuitable for agricultural purposes. While other French West Indies islands saw early growth and development of plantations this one knew mostly poverty and hard times. Since the early 1970′s, however, it has come into its own. It is now a popular tourist destination and second home for the wealthy, who enjoy its beauty and the quiet privacy and solitude St Barts villas offers.

In 1746 Christopher Columbus named it after his brother Barthelemay. It is of the Leeward Islands in the Northeast Caribbean, approximately 160 mi. East of Puerto Rico. Neighboring islands include St. Kitts, St. Martin and Antigua.

It is a volcanic island of 8 square miles (21 sq km) and is fringed with sandy beaches and coral reefs. The highest elevation is 938 feet (286 M). Temperatures range from 72 to 86 degrees (22 to 30 C) year around. The dry season is December through May, with more humidity experienced from June through November.

This place was colonized twice by native peoples, but there was no game and little could be grown. The French colonized it in 1648. It first knew prosperity after it came into the possession of Sweden in 1784, and was made a duty free port. They stimulated much of the early development, and named the capitol Gustavia. In 1853 an earthquake devastated the island. A fire later caused additional damage. In 1878 it was sold back to France.

While the official language is French, English is also spoken most everywhere, especially the hotels and restaurants. The 8,800 inhabitants are mostly European descendants of original settlers and newer settlers from North America.

More than 200,000 visitors come each year. About 70,000 make their stay at one of the 25 small hotels and more than 400 villas for rent. The rest visit as passengers on luxury boats. Many yachts are constantly seen at Gustavia’s natural harbor and around the island’s shores. Scuba diving, surfing, and wind surfing are popular activities. Many enjoy the shopping experience at the local duty free luxury stores.

Some seventy restaurants locate here prepare and serve Creole, West Indian, Italian, and Asian fare. Music of several Caribbean varieties is enjoyed. Poolside massages can be arranged at the rental villas, as well as yoga or private tours. Twenty-two public beaches await with warm coastal waters in a constant 68 to 74 degrees (20-23 C) temperature.

The winter holiday season sees the most tourism. Discounts of up to 50% are available from April 16th to December 14th. There is a 5% tourism tax, so make sure it is included in your bill and won’t be added on later. No need to worry about pollution and traffic gridlock here, there only two gas stations. Crime is pretty much nonexistent. The harbor is not deep enough to attract large cruise ships and their crowds.

There are 400 St Barts villas of various sizes and styles that may be rented for quiet family vacations or romantic getaways in the tropics. They are found both on the beaches and nestled among the hillsides with spectacular views. After enjoying one stay here you will want to return repeatedly, or even purchase a home here.

For exciting holiday choices, a traveler has the option to live at the beautiful Barbados villas. The best vacation hot spots can be enjoyed when you are living luxuriously at the St Martin villas.

Anguilla Villas On An Island Of Tranquility

June 30, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Anguilla is a small, intimate island in the northeastern Caribbean. Many of the people who own property on the island do not live there permanently. They make their houses available for rent many months of the year. As a result, many tourists that visit the island often stay in rented Anguilla villas rather than a hotel.

Anguilla was first colonized during 1650 by English settlers from the islands of Saint Kitts and Nevis that lie about 70 nautical miles to the south. Early in the 19th century Nevis, St Kitts and Anguilla were combined into a single territory. Anguilla residents did not support this arrangement but their effort to separate failed. In 1971, two years after earnest protests, the residents won their call to secede. Secession was formalized in 1980 and the island became a separate British dependency.

Most tourists travel to the island by airplane and live at the luxurious Caribbean villas. The small international airport is located in the middle of the island near The Valley, the capital. Most flights to the island are from nearby local islands rather than major foreign cities. Travelers to the island generally fly to San Juan on Puerto Rico then catch a connecting flight. Puerto Rico is some 150 nautical miles to the west.

There are no marinas but there are several safe anchorages. On the south coast, Blowing Point with its sleepy village at the head of the bay is a popular anchorage. So too is Little Harbor and Forest Bay further east along the coast. On the north side of the island, perhaps the two most popular spots are Island Harbour and Sandy Ground.

The island is five nautical miles north of St Martin and St Maarten. St Martin is clearly visible across the channel. These two islands are connected by a commercial ferry service. On Anguilla, it docks at Blowing Point jetty. On St Martin, it docks at Marigot.

The island is intimately tiny with an area of only about 35 square miles (90 square kilometers). Its length is oriented southwest-to-northeast over a distance of about 16 miles (25 kilometers). At its widest, the island has a distance of 3.5 miles (5.5 kilometers). It is not easy to get lost near the Anguilla villas.

The 60 kilometers of majestic coastline is dotted here and there with spectacular villas with sweeping views over the surrounding sea. Beautiful bays, cosy coves thirty-three sweeping beaches with interesting snorkeling and scuba dive spots are easily accessible all around the island.

The island, particularly its north coast, has a large selection of notable scuba diving spots. One is Frenchmans Reef just west of Shoal Bay Village. The dive is on an interesting section of the fringing reef, quite shallow at only 3 to 10 meters (8 to 30 feet) with a steep drop-off to about 30 meters (100 feet). A distinctive feature of this site is that its sandy bottom is populated with multiple coral heads. They add visual interest and variety to the marine life, including many lobsters that scurry from coral to coral and stingrays that bury themselves in the sand.

In summary, Anguilla villas are a logical accommodation option to consider when visiting the island. They mostly are situated along the coast with fine views out to sea and often close to a quiet stretch of sandy beach. The villas represent attractive good value for a wide range of budgets in terms of privacy, space and entertaining flexibility.

For exciting holiday choices, a traveler has the option to live at the beautiful Anguilla villas, as well as the atmospheric Turks and Caicos villas. The best vacation hot spots can be enjoyed when you are living luxuriously at the Jamaica villas.

There are a variety of great places to live and own in Sarasota. You no longer have to spend $300,000 to find yourself a fabulous home. With the recent collapse in real estate prices everything is much more affordable. Florida is a bargain again. Many areas of Sarasota are back to 1999-2001 pricing.

Sarasota Beachfront Homes

There is nearly 40 miles of beach in Sarasota, Florida. Most of the best is made up of condos. It is more economical for a developer to build 100 condos versus one large and expensive home. Zoning does not allow condos on all beachfront land. For this reason you will find some single family homes.

There are not as many places to find a Sarasota beachfront home as you might think. There are primarily 4 barrier islands – Longboat Key, Casey Key, Lido Key and Siesta Key. With all of these locations expect to pay at least $1,500,000 for a home on the beach. If you want a really nice home then you will need to spend more.

Lido Key

You won’t find a large selection of beachfront homes here however you will find some of the best. In fact, some of the most expensive sales in Sarasota are found in Lido Shores. This is the neighborhood on the north end of the island with several of them on the beach. Some of the estates here are absolutely amazing.

Siesta Key

One of the prettiest beaches in the world is found in Sarasota. Siesta Key beach is consistently ranked as one of the nicest beaches in the world. Most of the beach is made up of condos however there are a handful of single family homes available. This is a great place to live.

On the south end of Siesta Key you will find Turtle beach. Here you will find a handful of homes that offer the beach lifestyle. The exclusive Sanderling Club is located here as well. There are plenty of fabulous single family homes on large lots on the beach. Some of the most expensive homes in Sarasota are found here. On the north end of the island and just off Higel Avenue there are many homes that sit on a private beach overlooking Lido Key and Big Pass.

Longboat Key

This 11 mile long barrier island offers a variety of real estate. You will find condos on most of the beach however there are several spots where you can buy a single family home. On the south end behind the gates of the Longboat Key Club there are several large mansions on the beach. At the middle of the island and towards the north end on Gulfside Road there are many other options to own a home on the beach. You can find anything from a small shack worth just over $1,000,000 all of the way to a home worth over $10,000,000.

Casey Key

Wow, the homes here are amazing. If you are picky then you need to explore Casey Key as it has the highest concentration of homes on the beach. This is a long island with essentially no condos. Located just south of Siesta Key and off of Nokomis many people don’t want to get this far off the beaten path. However, many go to Casey Key for the peace and quiet that the other barrier islands don’t offer.
