Obidos is stunning and simple town associated with around 3,100 residents and the seat of the municipality of the same, located in the subregion Oeste and district of Leiria in Portugal. It is bounded within the northeast and east by Caldas da Rainha, in the south through Bombarral, in the southeast by Lourinh, in the west by Peniche and the northwest by the attractive and extremely charming Atlantic Ocean.
The breathtaking town of Obidos is located on a hill and is still encircled with a fortified wall. The well-maintained medieval appearance of its walls, streets, squares and its massive castle has transformed the picturesque town into a desired tourist destination in Portugal. Within the non commercial area, narrow cobblestone roads are layered with whitewashed houses having terracotta roofs. The shops are stacked high with local handicrafts, during spring the town is ablaze with geraniums, morning glories and bougainvillea.

Local crafts, delicacies and liqueurs are readily available within the traditional outlets which line the key road, including the famed neighborhood tipple Ginginha, an absolute sweet brandy liqueur made with localized cherries.
Even though away from the coast, nearby is the large lagoon Lagoa de Obidos where one can sunbathe, swim or even hire windsurfing equipment.
