Upgrades For Your Steel Building
October 20, 2009 by Chris Dotson · Leave a Comment
These days are much more complex then say your classic military quoset huts that looked like cans buried in the ground, steel buildings have made some advancements since then. And funny enough, you’ve seen the show on tv that pimps peoples ride, well were here to pimp your steel building. And if you are looking to save some green on this process we have what is called the “simple box” metal building, no bells or whistles.
But if you’re trying to keep up with the Joneses in your neighborhood, or want your farm to stand out so your new steel barn doesn’t look like the run of the mill cookie cutter building, then you’re going to want to become familiar with the possible upgrades and accessories available for prefab steel buildings.
Here we are going to go over some upgrades and options that may be available to you, and some of the terminology that goes with them so you know what to look for when comparing building prices.
Something you will see on the inner portions of colonial style homes is Wainscoting. This is also done on the outside of prefabricated steel buildings as well.
You can pick one color of sheeting to be applied from the ground up to a standard of three or four feet, then a different color of sheeting to be applied from the top of the wainscoting to the eave of the prefab building. It’s a great technique to use to match your steel garage to your house by using your house trim color as the wainscot color.
Another upgrade that will make your metal garage more attractive is overhangs. They can definitely improve the look and performance of steel barns. Overhangs are simply extensions of the roof. Large overhangs can be added to prefab metal buildings to create sheltered areas and increase outside storage capacity. If you choose to add overhangs to your building, adding soffits (the underside of the overhang) close everything in and add to the attractiveness of the look you’re trying to create.
Adding a steel building accessory like a cupola for steel barns is the final touch to make your steel building stand out above all of the other prefab buildings in your neighborhood. A cupola can be described as a little mini building that sits on the peak of your own steel barn. You can also add a weather vane for that extra distinctive touch.
These steel building accessories and upgrades I’ve described are just a few of the options out there available to create a unique and beautiful addition to your property. So when you’re figuring out your overall budget, remember to include a little extra to make your steel building stand out above the rest.
As you can see there are some upgrades that can really make your metal building stand out!
